Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just come for a one- off climb?

Yes, if you haven't visited before you can save time at check-in by completing our acknowledgement of risk forms online.

Can I bring children?

Yes, you will need to choose the way in which you wish for them to climb (with an instructor or with a competent supervising adult) Under 5s are free before 12 noon as long as fully accompanied by a supervising adult. Over 5s can take part in Coached sessions either through our Youth Programme or onto one of our introductory sessions such as Try Climbing. Any under 18 needs to accompanied by a supervising, competent adult. More details on bringing children can be found here.

Can I hire equipment?

We have climbing shoes, harnesses, belay devices and helmets available free of charge as part of your entry fees. We also allow hire of equipment to be taken outside, including bouldering pads, shoes and harnesses.

How old do kids have to be to climb?

If your child is climbing under our instruction they need to be at least 5 years old. If you, as a supervising competent adult are bringing your child to climb there is no minimum age. 1 adult can supervise up to 2 children only. More details on bringing children can be found here.

Can I book a private session for me or my kids?

Yes we offer Private sessions which can be booked through the courses and coaching pages when available.

What's the easiest way to start?

I have booked a place on a climbing course and I can't make it can I cancel?

In most cases we can rearrange or refund with sufficient notice. Check out or full terms and conditions.

Is there somewhere to park?

There is limited free parking by the Centre, as well as parking and charging for two electric vehicles. You are welcome to store bikes in our porch area. Otherwise the Viewforth car park is our closest public car park

Is there somewhere to watch as I am bringing a non climbing friend, partner, family member ?

Yes we have a large galleried cafe with viewing windows onto the climbing wall.

What should I wear for climbing?

Any comfortable exercise clothing that allows you to move freely.
