Under 18 Assessments

U18 (14+) sign off process for indirect supervision or unsupervised climbing

It's a normal part of a youth climbers development for them to want to climb unsupervised, and we've built a process to manage this in order to carry out our duty of care, and ensure the safety of the under 18.

There are three stages to the process:

  1. The Youth Climber gains sufficient skills, knowledge and maturity to be considered for unsupervised climbing
  2. An unsupervised climbing Waiver needs to be completed (link below)
  3. An U18 skills assessment needs to be booked and completed, this process is managed by our Head Coach, Jack

This process is detailed here largely for informational purposes. The process of gaining sufficient skills can be a long one for many children, as our duty of care to them is so much higher. As such, we have to hold those youths to a very high safety standard. If you are moving to Fort William from another climbing centre, then a climbing CV and or reference could help us shortcut this process, but we will still need to complete the U18 assessments. In the first instance, you should speak to jack@threewisemonkeysclimbing.com who will more than happily talk you through the process.
